Google Clouds

Google's plan of a hyper cloud was announced a bit ago and I, like the author of the source have some skepticism. They are lowering the cost of their service 68% compared to their competitors, which I am not so sure is an advantage. With all the maintenance it takes to run a 24/7 cloud company for not only individual users but for businesses that are planning to use Google's new platform, can be a strenuous task.

This market is becoming more and more over populated and the new companies that are trying to enter the market are not having much success. Since Google already has the brand recognition you would think that they would have an easier time entering the market, but I am not so sure that will be the case. Their volume is likely to be high when they first start off. Will they have enough servers to prevent a shut down? Will they have the know-how to fix problems efficiently? My guess is that there will be a few kinks to workout in the beginning.

I think this cheaper platform of cloud computing is going to run into its fair share of difficulties, especially in its opening stages. As the volume grows larger the demands are going to increase. Do you think that Google can excel in the Cloud computing market with this cheaper platform, or do you think that they have bitten off more than they can chew?

Cloud Computing Headed to Wall Street


While reading online about cloud computing for these blogs, I came across an article that described Cloud computing going public. This time I am not talking about public as a type of cloud processing; rather I am talking about public stocks and trade. Aaron Levie is the CEO of Box Inc., which is now a publicly traded stock on Wall Street. The thing that stuck out to me was how successful his company is, because they aren't. They are millions of dollars in debt and they’ve got a cash wound that will not stop bleeding. The are also operating a type of system that gives all Class B share holders 10 votes for each share of stock but those who come in the IPO only get one vote per share. This helps the company raise money without seceding any power of the company. The over lying problem with this company isn't that they are messing up as an organization, it's that the market is over populated and it hard to make profits. Levie was bod enough to leave an interview saying that they have a history of cumulative losses and they don't expect to be profitable in the foreseeable future.

Hybrid Clouds


There is a new type of cloud that is starting to gain momentum in the enterprise world of the United States. Hybrid clouds are a combination of public and private clouds. They are centered more towards public clouds because that is still cheaper to obtain than a fully functional private cloud. Private clouds were always meant to be a type of hybrid cloud that could reach public cloud resources. Now the public cloud distributors are starting to take over the hybrid game by taking security levels up to protect those using them. It is a slow moving process for these distributors but a process that is on the move nonetheless. I think that these hybrid clouds are just what we have been looking for and are going to pick up faster than anticipated. It is a process that will continually be on going and never finished because these new product/services are always going to be looking for the next advantage in technology and logistics.

Cloud Computing Explained


Cloud computing may be a little confusing to figure out if you have never used it (or at least didn’t know you have used it) or if you’ve never heard of it before. If a person doesn’t use a cloud system, all the different files and applications are stored on one individual computers hard drive. All that information can only be accessed from the computer on which the information is stored, which a lot of the time can be a pain if you are trying to access it from another form of technology such as a phone or iPad. If a person uses a cloud, all the information stored on one device is readily available to other devices connected to the Internet. For example: If I was working at home on my personal computer on a word document and I wasn’t connected to any cloud, I would only be able to access that file on my computer, unless I emailed that file to someone else. If I were to use Google Docs instead, anyone with an Internet connection and the password to the document would have access to and be able to edit it.

When a person uses the cloud, all the information such as files and applications are stored on several different servers all over. Having the information spread out and backed up onto different servers reassures the user that all their information wont be lost if one server were to crash. It is always good to have a hard copy of your work saved to a personal computer in case all the servers containing your information crashed at the same time (although highly unlikely)

Some of the most common cloud based systems include e-mail providers such as Gmail, outlook etc. Since you can access your email from your phone, computer, or tablets and are not limited to one specific device. Drop box, yousendit.com, Google Docs, Spotify and Amazon are also very popular companies who use the cloud. Major companies using the cloud allows their customers base to grow because is it usually more accessible than their competitors. Overall I think cloud computing is making a major advancement in the technology world and may companies will be using it soon.

Characterisitcs of Cloud Computing

Cloud computing offers on-demand self-service; individuals are able to obtain computing capabilities such as service time or network storage on their own.  On-demand is helpful because scarce resources become available to users at times when they may not be otherwise.  This allows for the entire process to be simple and flexible.  The uses of resources are credited with a pay as you go option; this allows for the user to access the exact amount of resources they need with ease.

Cloud computing uses a ubiquitous network access where individuals can use standard network and Internet devices including mobile platforms to access cloud resources.  This type of network access allows for independent resource pooling; multiple users are able to access resources based on their demand.  This aspect of cloud computing helped raised popularity because management is vaguely needed and service provider interaction is minimal.  Although the location independent resource pooling serves as an asset for most companies, some large corporate operations are wary about where their data may be.  Because companies are a part of a multi-user program, the resources provided by cloud computing are being used by individuals other than their company.

            The elasticity offered by cloud computing is probably the most appealing characteristic offered.  Payment is dependent on the actual amount of resources used; the pay as you go method is extremely attractive to customers.  This elasticity holds true across all aspects of cloud computing; if you wanted to change one aspect of your computing, one would be able to do so without interfering with other aspects.  This is another reason as to why there is minimal management from the service provider.  With cloud computing, difficult and detailed monitoring becomes a rather simple component.
